Running Sponza

Sky lighting, ambient occlusion, glass, mirrors, reflection probes and post passes, shown on Sponza.

Sponza, imported by running balaur import. Nothing in it was created by hand except a camera, a sun, an environment and a player.

Surfaces

package::mesh binds the sky as an environment map, the occlusion, the reflection probes, and the scene that glass refracts.

A chrome ball, a pane of glass and a mirrored floor under a sky

  • Image-based lighting takes the place of environment.ambient.
  • A mirror renders the scene from its own plane.
  • A reflection_probe is a box with a room captured inside.

Occlusion

Two boxes on a floor, without occlusion and with it

Every 3D material draws a geometry prepass. It then feeds the occlusion buffer.

Running it

Follow the instructions in balaur-sponza. Its scripts download the model and set up the scene after balaur import.

  • The model is Sponza from the Khronos glTF sample assets, CC BY 4.0, after the original by Frank Meinl for Crytek.
